Tacolicious Raises $70,000 for New Door Ventures at the Inaugural Taco Tour 2012

Heavy fog and a little bit of rain didn’t hold this group back from teeing off (or doing jello shots). An amazing group of golfers—both experienced and amateur—turned out for Tacolicious’s first-ever charity golf tournament at the Presidio Golf Course: the 2012 Taco Tour. About $70,000 was raised for New Door Ventures, a non-profit that works to help at-risk youth develop job skills through paid internships, job-readiness training, and supportive case management. The money raised will support 10 new internships.

Hole-in-One Challenge: Sadly, no one won this 2012 Audi A5

The course was packed with games, prizes, liquor and beer, and lots and lots of tacos. Many of the holes had their own unique games like: casino hole, longest drive, and closest to the pin. But the real the show stopper? The hole-in-one challenge for a chance to win a 2012 Audi A5. Sadly, no one got to drive home in the brand new car.

Mmmm Tacos

Of course, we had to bring our own flair into the mix. Tacolicious brought in a taco stand and some of our vendors, too. Don Julio, Jose Cuervo, Modelo and Corona provided the drinks on the course.

Thanks to Don Julio, Jose Cuervo and Crown imports for making delicious cocktails

After the final teams rounded up their shots on the last hole, everyone gathered for the reception which included, dinner, silent auction and an introduction to the charity they were supporting. Tess Reynolds, CEO of New Door Ventures, shared with the group the compelling story of Richie, one of their program participants. You can watch the video here.

The night ended with crowning the tournament winners.

“Tacolicious is a wonderful partner of New Door. By providing jobs for youth at the restaurant and hosting fundraisers like the golf tournament, together we are making a tangible impact in the lives of our City’s disconnected youth, ” said Tess.

Get excited for next year, as we plan on making this annual tournament even better.
