Skinny Jeans Are Overrated: Controversial Limited Edition Paul Madonna T-Shirt

a woman

Ironically, Mika looks very good in skinny jeans. And is wearing them here.

Yet she knows, deep down, that skinny jeans could cause brain damage.

Assuming you’ve eaten at Tacolicious, I’m sure you’ve noticed the artwork: the larger than life Tapatio bottle, the little to-go containers from a taqueria, the pickled chilies. They were all done for us by Paul Madonna, a Mission District local, who I like to think of as our resident artist.

Just in time for the holidays, we’re releasing a limited edition of a made-for-Tacolicious, you-can’t-get-this-anywhere-else T-shirt designed by Paul. I like to this of it as Paul Madonna for Tacolicious. Kind of like Jean Paul Gaultier for Target.

The design on this almond-colored tee was inspired by Paul’s weekly “Small Potatoes” comic strip that he does for The Rumpus, an online culture magazine edited by local writer Stephen Elliot. The premise of “Small Potatoes” is basically a bunch of potatoes just muddling their way through life. The humor is very Paul. I love them.

These t-shirts (modeled here by the lovely Mika, our Tacolicious hostess) are selling for $35. A hefty portion of the proceeds will go to Creativity Explored—the Mission District–based non-profit visual arts center where artists with developmental disabilities create art. It’s one of our favorite places in town (not to mention, the first place I ever bought a piece of original artwork way back, oh, in about 1996). Their holiday sale is coming up, starting December 3. I recommend checking it out.

Buy this Paul Madonna original now and give the gift of art and support a great cause. Trust me, it’s a conversation starter. T-shirts are now on sale at the restaurant.

DETAILS Limited-edition, American Apparel, all-cotton T-shirt, available in both men’s and women’s sizes. Designed by Paul Madonna. $35. Proceeds go to Creativity Explored. To pre-order, contact Mike at mike@tacolicious.com or just come into the restaurant and ask for one.
